New Beginnings

The bookstore for which I have worked at for the last 14 years (on & off) just closed it's doors for the last time. At least for the time being, I am not going to be able to talk books with people as much as I am used to. I have had friends and customers ask if I had a blog, so I am going to give it a try. I am not a writer, so please forgive me it this is a bit rough at times.
My plan is to post a mix of current books as I finish them and some of my favorites from the last several years. I do still occasionally get advance reading copies from publishers and will let you know if I am reviewing a book that has been sent to me. I look forwarding to hearing your comments about my reviews and the books I read, whether you agree with me or not. It's going to be pretty boring here if you like every single book I mention.

  1. Welcome to the blogosphere! I can't wait to read your reviews. It'll be fun to see if your Top Ten for 2011 match up with any of mine.

In other news, where are you working these days??

  4. I'm so sorry! I have such fond memories of working at Store 48 (?) on Hulen. My first job in the book biz... So sad...

  5. If you enjoy the reviews here, please check out Lesley's site too - http://lesleysbooknook.blogspot.com/. I have gotten some great suggestions from checking it regularly and it was my inspiration for setting this up. I will always be grateful for Les recommending many books for me, but none moreso than Pat Conroy's wonderful "Beach Music", which is one of my all time favorite reads.

  6. Aw, thanks, Lee. I've gotten some wonderful recommendations from you, too. We don't always see eye-to-eye, but I'm sure there are many on my annual Top Ten list that I discovered thanks to you.

I still need to reread Beach Music!

  7. Okay all the times we have talked about you writing and you said you couldn't-you were wrong. I know this is a different kind of writing than I do. Me: No structure, no proper grammar, scattered but somewhat creative and occasionally humourous You: More technical but, well structured with excellent grammar and interesting! You would make a wonderful journalist (reviews) and any publication would be lucky to have you. Plus you don't have a potty mouth like I do. I am excited you are doing this and I will do my best to promote it for you. Much luck and happiness! I know your customers miss you dearly!
